GCC Product Certification for Low-voltage Electrical Products

The Gulf region has experienced significant economic growth in the past decades and more businesses are exporting products into the region. The G Marking signifies the conformity of products to the pre-defined requirements of health, safety and environmental standards.

As accredited by the Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC) Accreditation Centre (GAC*) as a Notified Body to issue Gulf Region Mark (G-Marking) certifications for all low voltage electrical equipment and appliances, Intertek can provide support and guidance on the Gulf Technical Regulations and overall G-marking preparation for the products entering the member countries in the Gulf Region:

The G Marking for low voltage electrical products is regulated in the Gulf Technical Regulation (BD-142004-01), which mainly focuses on household appliances with a voltage rating of 50-1000V AC or 75-1500V DC concerning of general safety and EMC safety of the products. The enforcement of this new regulation is set to begin with a pilot scheme from 1 June 2015, with full enforcement from 1 July 2016. All low-voltage electrical products being brought onto and available in the GCC marketplace after 1 July 2016 must have the G Marking.

List 1 regulated products: 

• Self-declaration conformity assessment products 

List 2 regulated products: 

•  Requiring Notified Body (NB) involvement to obtain a Gulf Type Examination Certificate 

There are 13 product categories, primarily in the area of IEC 60335 (Home Appliances), examples:  

• Electric fan 
• Refrigerator/freezer 
• Clothes washer/dryer 
• Food grinder/mixer/juice extractor

• Hair-dressing apparatus/hand dryer

Requirements:

• Standards requirements of GSO Technical Regulations
• IECEE CB/ GSO NB/Manufacturer’s in-house laboratory with ILAC report/Intertek test report with the correct national deviations
• Manufacturer’s risk analysis   

GSO Certificate Tracking System:

GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) has announced the official launching of the GSO Certificate Tracking System (GCTS) on 26 June 2016. This system offers pertinent information to the relevant authorities responsible for Border Control and Market Surveillance in GSO member states.

As a GSO Notified Body, Intertek Hong Kong provides the required services for your product entry.

• We shall register the certificates in the system with the Certificate GCTS symbol (G-Marking along and the Notified Body number of Intertek Hong Kong and a QR-code assigned by the system) in the certificate as mandatory requirement.
• All products which are subject to conformity assessment involving intervention of notified bodies, shall bear the Product GCTS symbol (G-Marking without the number of notified body and a QR-code assigned by the system) as mandatory requirement.

The validity of the G-Marking certificate is 3 years and the GCTS registration fee is SAR1,500/certificate/3 years.
