HKCA 1081

The Hong Kong Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) has released HKCA 1081 Issue 1, “Performance Specification for Radiocommunications Apparatus Operating in the 6 GHz Band for Wireless Local Area Network” in April 2022. This specification defines the technical and evaluation requirements for radiocommunications apparatus operating in the 6 GHz band for wireless local area network (6 GHz WLAN devices).

The 6 GHz WLAN device shall comply with the Technical and Electrical Safety Requirements. Technical Requirements include:

  • The device shall operate in the 5.925 – 6.425 GHz frequency range.
  • The maximum output power of the device shall not exceed the limits indicated below:
Location of Use Output Power (EIRP)
Indoor 24 dBm
Outdoor 14 dBm
  • The device shall meet the technical requirements specified in the standard Draft EN 303 687 V1.0.0 “6 GHz WAS/RLAN; Harmonised Standard for access to radio spectrum” published by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (“ETSI”).

Access Points of 6 GHz (i.e., Wi-Fi 6E router) are subject to compulsory certification and labeling when selling or demonstration in the course of sale under the Class Licence for 6 GHz Device of Telecommunications Ordinance (Chapter 106).
