The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced the Emirates Conformity Assessment System (ECAS) mandatory regulatory program. The new regulations will require importers to the UAE market to develop new compliance strategies and plans.

There is seeing a major increase of new mandatory regulatory conformity assessment systems in the Gulf Region introduced and adopted by the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries, including the Gulf Mark (G mark).

The Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) introduced mandatory regulatory controls on specific product placed onto the UAE market in 2015 for electrical and mechanical safety, energy efficiency, and environmental requirements under a national program called the Emirates Conformity Assessment System (ECAS). The UAE Government announced in 2016, through Cabinet Resolution No. 35 that the ECAS program would be outsourced to third-party Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABS) to conduct the conformity assessment process and issue product safety certification.

The ECAS program scope includes multiple industry sectors from Electrical & Electronic Equipment, sub–assemblies, components, and Gas Appliances, Machinery, Automotive, Building and Construction, Cosmetics, and Food in the form of issued technical regulations, under the ECAS banner and regulated by the appointed government regulatory body, Emirates Standards & Metrology Authority (ESMA).

New ECAS Technical Regulations:

  • Low Voltage Equipment (LVE)
  • Energy Efficiency Standards Labelling (EESL)
  • Lighting Products
  • RoHS for UAE
  • ECASEx (Regulation of equipment used in Explosive Atmospheres)
