Guiding Startups with Our Total Quality Assurance Expertise

Intertek Hong Kong exhibited at the 10th Entrepreneur Day from 17 to 18 May, 2018, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, for the express purpose of offering safety and quality advice to start-ups from a wide range of industries. Appointed as one of the Clinic Doctors at the fair’s newly-launched, innovative consultation session, Intertek experts provided invaluable insights and suggestions to numerous start-ups during the two-day event. Intertek Hong Kong also hosted a seminar on “3 Product Management Tips for Start-ups”

Themed as “Powering start-ups”, Entrepreneur Day is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), and has successfully welcomed a record of more than 270 exhibitors with 17,000 visitors from different sectors. This year HKTDC specially designed an advisory session – “Start-up Clinic” – to encourage start-ups and industry experts to address problems arising from three major areas, including Accounting/ Financial Management, Information Technology applications, and Branding and Marketing. The Clinic is designed to help start-ups seek professional advice, avoid common business pitfalls and be well-equipped for business transformation through one-on-one customised business consultation.

Intertek’s Angel Cheung, Vice President – Toys and Hardlines, also contributed as a speaker at the seminar session, featuring “3 Product Management Tips for Start-ups”. The talk received an enthusiastic response, with entrepreneurs asking questions on various regulatory and performance issues. Angel said: “We are honoured to be appointed as one of the Clinic Doctors at this meaningful event. It is always a great pleasure to welcome start-ups to the ever-changing market and share our expertise in the areas of safety and quality, which are of paramount importance to the sustainable development of any company. To survive and prosper, they must establish a marketing presence based on a sustainable competitive advantage. By providing our Total Quality Assurance solutions, Intertek is proud to play a key role in bridging innovative ideas with industrial standards and market expectations.”

Thanks to the company’s in-depth experience and cross-disciplinary offerings, Intertek is able to offer a bespoke service helping start-ups commercialize their products to market according to market and regulatory requirements. Winnie Mak, founder of London-based start-up One Dear World, who has created a collection of multicultural dolls and storybooks designed to promote diversity and inclusion in the toys market, commented, “Starting a new business in a new industry can be scary and even more so when there are unfamiliar regulations and guidelines in the countries you're exporting to. With Intertek, as product safety is my first priority, I can rest assured that my dolls are tested properly by an internationally recognised quality assurance company. I'm also happy that I was able to sit down with their professional staff to go through the list of tests and ask any questions regarding my concerns during my visit to Hong Kong. I would always recommend Intertek to any start-up launching a new product.” With Intertek as their quality partner, One Dear World has successfully launched their multicultural dolls in the UK and US markets and recently won the Family Business of the Year Award in the London Area Award conferred by the Federation of Small Businesses in the United Kingdom.

All start-ups are welcome to talk to our Intertek specialists for advice and guidance on any quality and safety issues.
