Setting new global industry standards for catering hygiene and safety

The Intertek Greater China Food Services Team recently exhibited at Asia’s leading food & hospitality exhibition, Restaurant & Bar Hong Kong (RBHK) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in early September. The team presented to the public its newly-launched Global Food Hygiene Control Programme and received enthusiastic responses during the 3-day event.

With a 16-year track record and 12,000 trade buyers, Restaurant & Bar Hong Kong introduces new and high-quality products between exhibitors and buyers annually. This year, more than 300 exhibitors participated in the event, including culinary experts, beverage outlets and restaurants & bars.

At the event, Intertek introduced the new Food Hygiene Control Programme which is a global consistency standard for both domestic and international brands. The Programme covers the testing and assessment of Facilities, Product and People of the catering outlets. With an independent food safety auditor to check food premises, staff practices and products, the marks not only manage the risk of food-related incidents but also promote customer care through best practices in hygiene. There are three classifications, namely Gold, Silver and Bronze under the Programme.

Denis Leung, General Manager for Intertek’s Food Services, Greater China said, “It’s an honor for Intertek to present this new food safety programme to the public at one of Asia’s leading events. This is an extension of our food hygiene programme, for which we have obtained the confidence of the public and our clients for so many years.”

Denis continues, “there are many factors between the farm and the fork. Consumers are becoming more aware of what they consume; the marks enable caterers to prove that they have demonstrated good practices at their operations and give their own customers confidence that the caterers are serving with a higher degree of standard.”
