Bringing innovative sustainability work, solutions and discussions from industry leaders

Last week, Intertek Hong Kong hosted a Sustainability Forum themed “Key Sustainable Textile Innovations You Should Know About” at The Mills, our venue sponsor, a cosy hub which is also an icon for the future of textiles. Over 100 guests from the textile industry joined this signature event of Intertek Softlines to keep abreast of the industry’s sustainable innovations and strengthen their network for running their business in a more sustainable way for a better future.

There was a total of eight guest speakers, leading industry representatives from Blue Matter Biotechnology, Breakdown Plastic, Coats, Cobalt Fashion, Equiply, HKRITA, Remakehub and ZDHC. In addition to their insightful presentations, display booths from their organizations were set up at the venue to demonstrate how their products, raw materials, innovative concept and development plan made a difference to the industry.

The event was kick-started by Christina Law, President of Global Softlines, extending a warm welcome to the guests during her opening speech, saying we are at a tipping point and pressure is mounting on companies to do more on sustainability, especially so for the textile industry. She also mentioned how Intertek brings quality, safety and sustainability to life with the launch of the Total Sustainability Assurance, an industry-leading, independent assurance solution enabling businesses to demonstrate their end-to-end commitment to sustainability.

Besides the speakers’ sessions, there was a panel discussion moderated by Teddy Chung, Director of Softlines Hong Kong, with industry representatives from Cobalt Fashion, ZDHC, Coats and Blue Matter Biotechnology to explore the topic, “Sustainable Development in Global Textile Market: The Goals and Challenges” during which the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals were touched on. It was generally agreed that while companies could be using more environmental-friendly materials and processes in production, consumers behavior also played a key role to a sustainable future. Everyone needs to consume responsibly.

All attending guests were very excited about the networking session and the good insights gained in the world of sustainability for textile. Many positive responses were received. A “Intertek Green Services Seminar” to be held in November was also promoted at the event as a follow-up event for guests would show interests in Intertek sustainability solutions.
