Intertek Hong Kong participates in the VTC STEM Challenge Cup 2021

On July 3, Intertek Hong Kong joined the panel of judges at the Final Competition of the VTC STEM Challenge Cup 2021. Organised by the Vocational Training Council (VTC), the competition this year encouraged young minds to establish the new normal by developing innovative solutions under the theme of “Navigating the New Normal”.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the education and routine lives of many students in unprecedented ways. Therefore, the VTC STEM Challenge Cup 2021 this year gave young people the chance to address these challenges through the integration and application of STEM knowledge and skills. Reflecting the ‘New Normal’ theme, the competition was successfully held online - a true demonstration of using STEM power to fight against the unprecedented global challenges of COVID-19.

Notwithstanding these circumstances, 18 shortlisted teams delivered presentations on their innovative solutions with prototypes which impressed the panel of judges, including our Toys and Hardlines Director Dorothy Lau, along with other distinguished industry representatives.

By boosting a sense of innovation and entrepreneurship among students, the competition encouraged young talents to develop integrated solutions with smart technologies that would change every aspect of people’s lives. Together, by promoting STEM in the community, we can create the new normal and transform Hong Kong into smart and sustainable city.

Says Dorothy: “Youngsters’ creativity and innovative ideas are integral to the STEM community. Working closely with educational institutions such as the Vocational Training Council, enables us to engage students in meaningful STEM learning. We aim to prepare students for STEM careers so that they will one day become STEM role models and leaders of the future.”

Being the industry advisor to VTC for many years, Intertek Hong Kong was honoured to play an important role in this wonderful event. We wish to extend our thanks to Vocational Training Council for inviting us onto the judging panel and applaud all young minds for their brilliant ideas.

Congratulations to all awardees!
