Intertek Cyber Assured program safeguards customers’ medical device and software cybersecurity

On September 10, Intertek Hong Kong spoke at Hong Kong Productivity Council’s (HKPC) workshop themed “Smart Healthcare and Wearable Electronics Regulatory Requirements and Case Sharing”. Supported by Innovation and Technology Commission, the workshop is one of the important activities under General Support Programme (GSP) project “Promote Awareness on 5G and IoT Test Requirements”

IoT Connectivity is bringing huge advances to connected medical devices which benefit users. However, there are data privacy concerns due to the possibility of an individual’s most sensitive information being leaked. This year, to raise awareness of the importance of product testing and certification and cope with challenges for building new IoT/5G applications, industry leaders and experts shared their expertise and practical experience under the theme of smart healthcare and wearable electronics.

Melvin Nip, Business Development Manager and Kenneth Yip, Technical Manager from Intertek Hong Kong Electrical Team shared the latest updates on the regulatory requirements and certifications of smart healthcare, medical devices and related wearable devices during the workshop. Melvin and Kenneth introduced important regulations and the self-assessment users can perform to identify the relevant regulation applicable to different product.

Says Melvin: “Intertek values cybersecurity. We do hope this workshop will bring new insights and updated information on IoT, 5G products and local testing support to whoever needs it, be it electronic manufacturers, start-up, solution providers, engineering contractors, public bodies, or government departments. We are all vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. Assessment should begin at the product development phase to avoid deviation from the regulation.”

Says Kenneth: “Intertek Hong Kong have dealt with many cases regarding cybersecurity. It was a great opportunity for us to share updated information about certification processes for different markets. Medical equipment has strict certification process, and it is of utmost importance for key players to contact the conformity assessment body for more details.”

Being a close partner of HKPC for years, Intertek Hong Kong was honoured to be part of this amazing event as guest speaker. Thank you HKPC for inviting us to this impactful and meaningful event!
