Intertek Hong Kong Leads Students on Entrepreneurial Experience

Nurturing and engaging young talents

In April 2023, Intertek Hong Kong was privileged to be among the participating companies in the second "Innopreneur Experience Journey Cohort 2", co-organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) and the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP). The Hong Kong team was paired with two secondary school students, Mandy and Ivan, to offer them internship work experience.

The programme involved around 40 local secondary school students, with the goal of enhancing their understanding of the field and expanding their exposure to it. The two students joined the Marketing Team and adapted flexibly on a wide range of tasks.

We offered "executive shadowing" that enabled them to gain a deeper comprehension of our daily operations, including extending operational assistance, offering administrative support, and completing miscellaneous clerical duties. They actively engaged in the arranged work experience, involving activities such as discussing company artifacts, assisting in filming, and editing social media posts to familiarize themselves with the marketing business model.

We also gave them a walk-through of the Hong Kong office, showing them our High Performance Center, Pet Product Testing Centre and Kitchenware lab, LED Testing lab and Microbiology lab. The two young talents were truly amazed by the efficiency of our people and the infrastructure.

Mandy and Ivan also had the opportunity to observe filming related to the testing and certification industry as well as witness the marketing filming process. They showed great enthusiasm upon witnessing the filming process, as it provided them with a valuable learning experience.

Says Mandy: "As a business-oriented secondary school student, I am fortunate to be able to experience marketing for a total quality service provider. It's a challenging, yet rewarding experience that I find enjoyable!"

Says Ivan: "It was definitely an eye-opening experience and I was so excited to visit the professional lab and experience filming."

We hope that this experience will inspire young students' curiosity about innovation and technology and prepare them for future academic and professional pursuits."
