Intertek’s Softlines Team Discuss Waterproof Shoes in Hong Kong Press

Intertek Softlines’ Sammi Chiu, Senior Technical Manager and Dr. Jennifer Lu, Technical Manager, have recently been featured in an article covering waterproof shoes, by MingPao, local press in Hong Kong. Published in the rainy season, the article highlights the importance of high-performance testing in the manufacturing of waterproof footwear and the value it can bring to a product.
As experts in the field, our Softlines Team shared their knowledge and expertise on the differences between waterproof, water-resistant, and water-repellent textiles and footwear. They explained that waterproof is a higher level of water-resistant performance, which can block water from wetting the skin under the protection of clothing. On the other hand, water-resistant textiles and footwear can resist the penetration of water to some extent, but they are not entirely waterproof. Water-repellent textiles and footwear have a coating that makes water bead off the surface, but they are not as effective in protecting against prolonged exposure to water.
