Addressing the Safety and Quality Enhancement in Semiconductor Manufacturing
On 13-16 October, Intertek Hong Kong was proud to present at the Electronics Fair 2023 CAiRS Seminar. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Electronics Fair is one of the largest electronics exhibitions in Hong Kong. The annual event showcases a wide range of electronics products and services from around the world. The four day show this year saw over 3200 brands from 22 countries and regions, covering various aspects of the electronics industry gather together to demonstrate the latest technology advancements.
The semiconductor industry is witnessing a boom, with the global market size expected to reach US$161.08B by 2032. In the Asia Pacific region, the market is predicted to expand to US$111.6B by 2032, driven by the growth in China and Korea. With this surging growth, the emphasis on safety and quality in the semiconductor manufacturing process has become paramount.
Addressing this critical topic, Jason Ho, Intertek Hong Kong Electrical Vice President, delivered a compelling presentation titled "How SEMI Standards Can Help Enhance Safety and Quality of Semiconductor Manufacturing."
Jason elaborated on the safety issues and hazards involved in semiconductor manufacturing, such as electrical and mechanical hazards, risk of fires or explosions, and exposure to hazardous chemicals. He further underscored the importance of adopting good industrial practices and standards to mitigate these risks.
Jason emphasised the utility of SEMI S2 - Environmental, Health, and Safety Guideline for Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment. This standard applies to equipment used to manufacture, measure, assemble, and test semiconductor products and is intended as a reference for EHS considerations throughout the equipment’s life cycle.
Jason said:
"In the face of rapid industry growth, adhering to SEMI Standards is key to enhancing safety and quality in semiconductor manufacturing. These standards offer a roadmap to eliminate or control hazards, ensuring the wellbeing of personnel and the efficiency of the manufacturing process."
