The latest non-destructive Tumbling method for the full-garment Down-Fiber Penetration Resistance Test can evaluate down-proof properties without destroying the garment
In response to ever-changing global regulations and the increasing consumer demand for high-quality products, textile manufactures have invested a great deal in R&D activities to deliver high performance products that meet modern trends. As a leader in high-performance textile testing, Intertek Hong Kong is well equipped with the most advanced testing equipment and technical know-how to help retail brands and manufacturers capture fast-changing market opportunities.
Intertek is the First third-party testing and certification institution in Hong Kong to launch the Non-destructive Tumbling Method (SLHK-T-TMDB23) for the testing of penetration resistance of full- garments. This is the first non-destructive method for full-garment penetration-resistance testing for the passage of feathers and down/polyfil fibers, and has been accredited by The Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS).
This test method is applicable to any size of down/feather garments or fiber-stuffed garments. After tumbling, the number of penetrating/emerging down/feathers/fibers on the surface or lining of the tested garment is counted and a rating will be given accordingly. Good quality products with lower down/fibers penetration will get a higher rating. Compared with other tumbling methods, this testing process is more similar to real-life situations and no cutting of the garment is required.
Scope of Application & Advantages
- Applies to all styles of full garments with down, feather or fibers filling
- No damage to the testing sample.
- Provides comprehensive evaluation on surface, lining, stitch, seam and hood positions
- Simplified rating by penetration level of down/feather/fiber
